The Church of Agios Athanasios at the location "Griziou" of Metsovo is located at the southern entrance of the city following the public road from Ioannina to Metsovo.

It is said that the temple was founded on August 21, 1871, presiding over the Patriarchal Exarchate of Metsovo Dorotheos Pipos. Founder of the church was the benefactor Andreas Fardis who covered the expense. The construction of the church was completed in 1873. In 1907, the church was renovated at the expense of John Dasoulas who was based in New York. The latest restoration and maintenance of the church took place in 1975.
